Senator Rodante Marcoleta was arrested on Monday after the Sandiganbayan issued a warrant of arrest against him and three co-accused in connection with a plunder case.
Marcoleta appeared before the Sandiganbayan Third Division on 6 July as proceedings in the case moved forward.
Associate Justice Karl Miranda confirmed the issuance of the arrest warrant, ordering authorities to take the senator and his co-accused into custody.
Miranda said that following his arrest, Marcoleta would be transferred to the New Quezon City Jail–Male Dormitory in Payatas pending further court proceedings.
The arrest came after the anti-graft court denied a motion filed by Marcoleta's camp seeking to suspend proceedings and defer the issuance of a warrant of arrest.
Further details regarding the charges and the ongoing court proceedings are expected as the case develops.
