A 50-year-old man was arrested in a police entrapment operation on Friday afternoon, 3 July, in connection with an alleged violation of Republic Act No. 8353, or the Anti-Rape Law of 1997.
Sources identified the suspect as Efren Discartin Corea, 50, married, a self-employed electrician and a resident of Barangay Aguitap, Solsona, Ilocos Norte.
The identity of the victim has been withheld because the victim is a minor.
According to the San Nicolas Municipal Police Station, the operation was conducted at around 1:34 p.m. at Roberts Inn in Barangay 3, San Nicolas.
Police said the operation was launched after the suspect allegedly insisted on meeting the victim on the eastern side of a mall in San Nicolas before proceeding to a motel. Authorities said the suspect picked up the victim aboard a red Honda vehicle before the two entered a room at the establishment.
Operatives then carried out the entrapment operation, resulting in the suspect’s arrest inside the hotel.
Police said the arrest was documented using an Alternative Recording Device (ARD), after which the suspect was informed of his constitutional rights in a language known to him.
An inventory of evidence was conducted in the presence of the suspect and witnesses, including a representative from the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) of San Nicolas and a barangay official.
The suspect and the victim were later brought to the San Nicolas Municipal Police Station for documentation and the filing of appropriate charges. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
