Magre-recruit ang Department of Education (DepEd) ng 10,000 non-licensed school counselor associates upang matugunan ang kakulangan ng mga guidance counselor sa mga pampublikong paaralan sa buong bansa.
Ayon kay Education Secretary Sonny Angara, layunin ng hakbang na palakasin ang pagbibigay ng mental health at psychosocial support sa mga mag-aaral, lalo na sa mga paaralang kulang o walang lisensyadong guidance counselor.
Bagama't wala pa silang lisensya, sinabi ni Angara na sasailalim ang mga ito sa angkop na pagsasanay at magsisilbi alinsunod sa mga alituntuning itatakda ng DepEd at ng iba pang kaugnay na ahensya
Samantala, inaprubahan na ng Civil Service Commission (CSC) ang qualification standards para sa posisyong School Counselor Associate. Kabilang sa mga maaaring mag-aplay ang mga nagtapos ng Psychology, Behavioral Science, at Guidance and Counseling.
Inaasahan namang maglalabas ang DepEd ng karagdagang detalye tungkol sa mga kwalipikasyon, tungkulin, at proseso ng pagkuha ng mga non-licensed school counselor associates sa mga susunod na araw.
