Kai Montinola is set to voice the spirit of adventure for the Philippine release of Disney’s live-action reimagining of Moana. The Filipina actress and singer will perform “Hangganan Ko,” the highly anticipated Filipino version of the global anthem “How Far I’ll Go.”
Fans can experience this local rendition almost immediately, as the digital track drops tomorrow, 3 July, ahead of the film’s theatrical release on 8 July 2026.
“My favorite part of Moana’s journey is that she didn’t think she was perfect, she doubted at first, but she chose that fear. She chose to seize that fear, and there she was destined to do greater things,” said Montinola, a lifelong Disney enthusiast.
Montinola said she views the collaboration as the realization of a childhood dream. She deeply connects with the heroine's vulnerability, noting that her favorite part of Moana's journey is how she chose to seize her fears despite her initial self-doubt.
This resonance is exactly what makes her the perfect fit for the track, according to Allie Benedicto, Marketing Director for Emerging Southeast Asia at The Walt Disney Company.
“Kai embodies today’s young Filipinos who are full of grit yet filled with warmth, making her the perfect fit to sing 'Hangganan Ko' meant for today’s generation of Disney fans and movie-goers,” said Benedicto, noting that Moana’s themes of family, courage, and a deep connection to the ocean have long struck a chord with Filipino audiences.
The iconic original track, composed by Tony Award-winner Lin-Manuel Miranda and co-produced with Mark Mancina, originally earned a Grammy Award and multiple prestigious nominations.
Now, local audiences will get to experience that magic live and on screen. Montinola is scheduled to bring “Hangganan Ko” to life with special live performances at the Central Atrium of SM Mall of Asia on 8 July, followed by a appearance at the Mountain Wing Atrium of SM Seaside Cebu on 12 July. An official music video is also slated to debut later this month to accompany the film's promotional run.
This live-action cinematic event brings the beloved animated adventure to life as Moana, played by Catherine Lagaʻaia, voyages beyond the reef of Motunui alongside the legendary demigod Maui, played by Dwayne Johnson. Together, they embark on an epic quest across the sea to restore prosperity to her people. Disney’s Moana officially opens in Philippine cinemas on July 8, 2026,
