Two alleged illegal recruiters were arrested Tuesday afternoon, 30 June, in an entrapment operation conducted by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), in cooperation with the Philippine National Police–Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG), resulting in the closure of Venancia Consultancy PTY Ltd./Venancia International Manpower, Inc.
The arrested individuals were identified as Jomalyn Baya Fisher and Glydel Suyon, who are facing charges related to illegal recruitment.
According to the the victims, they were allegedly charged more than P300,000 as a processing fee in exchange for promised jobs in Poland as factory workers and welders.
In the DMW verification, it was revealed that Fisher and Suyon are recruitment officers of a licensed recruitment agency, but not of Venancia Consultancy PTY Ltd./Venancia International Manpower, Inc. They allegedly used their positions to defraud applicants seeking jobs abroad.
The investigation also revealed that the agency had no approved job order for Poland and lacked the necessary permit from the DMW to conduct recruitment activities.
The DMW assured that justice will be served to the victims and all those involved in the illegal operation will be held accountable.
The agency also reminded the public to ensure that a recruitment agency is licensed, authorized, and possesses an approved job order before applying for a job abroad.
It also encouraged applicants and their families to immediately report any suspicious recruitment activity to the DMW or the proper authorities to prevent deception, abuse, and exploitation of those dreaming of working abroad.
