La Salle discipline, dedication fuel Ramil

RAMIL de Jesus
Decorated De La Salle University women’s volleyball head coach Ramil de Jesus credited the discipline and dedication of the players he has handled for all the success he has achieved in the past four decades.
Already a legend in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) as the longest-tenured mentor and architect of the Lady Spikers’ winning culture, De Jesus has been using the same formula to whip his team into a competitive, cohesive and fierce squad.
“I talk to them a lot,” he said.
His spartan-like training and discipline turned raw gems into glittering jewels on court.
But his reminders, lessons, and constant talk steered his team in the right direction.
“I tell them that they just need to maintain their focus on our goal. Everybody should be on the same page and looking at just one goal,” he said.
The 13 championships that La Salle has collected since he took over the reins in 1997 are solid proof of how efficient his coaching style is.
In 26 seasons under his watch, the Lady Spikers only missed two podium finishes.
As recognition for his greatness, the Collegiate Press Corps bestowed Ramil De Jesus as the 2026 UAAP Women’s Volleyball Coach of the Year during the awards rites held Monday at the Discovery Suites.
De Jesus guided La Salle to a sweet 16-game sweep of Season 88.
“I’m honored to be a part of this event. This is my first time receiving an award like this from the Press Corps. I’m grateful for this award,” he said.
The former national team head coach also praised his seniors, led by Angel Canino and Shevanna Laput, for their leadership and patience in leading a relatively young squad back to the throne after three years.
“I’m lucky to have seniors who are focused with the team instead of personal interest,” he said.
“Mostly, when players reach their senior time, they’re more focused on themselves and their next step as professionals. But not them; they’re different.”
With an intact lineup expected to come back next year, De Jesus could be looking at another crown under his belt.
