More than his commanding stage presence and confidence, it was Drei Arias of Bulacan’s heartfelt message of authenticity, respect, and inclusion that ultimately earned him the Mr. Gay World Philippines 2026 title.
During the pageant’s decisive question-and-answer round, Arias was asked how LGBTQIA+ advocates can build bridges with people who hold different beliefs while remaining true to their identity. His response resonated with both the judges and the audience, emphasizing that meaningful dialogue begins with understanding rather than division.
“Bridges are built through understanding, respect, and the courage to live authentically.”
Arias underscored that embracing one’s identity does not require rejecting those with opposing views. Instead, he encouraged leading with compassion, honesty, and empathy—qualities he believes can open conversations and inspire positive change.
His answer reflected the evolving role of modern pageant titleholders, who are expected to be advocates capable of addressing social issues with grace while representing diverse communities.
Earlier in the competition, Arias also spoke candidly about his personal journey, revealing how he spent years suppressing his true self in pursuit of stability and opportunities to support his family.
“For years, I have denied myself. Maraming taon na dini-nay ko ’yung sarili ko para sa sarili kong kapakanan, para magkaroon ng maraming projects, ng maraming trabaho dahil kailangan kong buhayin ang pamilya ko.”
He reminded the audience that survival should never be a source of shame.
“There’s no shame in surviving.”
Arias said choosing to come out was ultimately an act of courage—not only for himself but for others who continue to struggle for acceptance.
“And how can I stay true to myself? I just come out.”
He concluded with a powerful tribute to members of the LGBTQIA+ community who lost their lives because of discrimination and violence, calling on everyone to remember their stories and continue the fight for equality.
With a message rooted in authenticity, empathy, and hope, Arias proved that true leadership is measured not only by confidence on stage but also by the courage to speak for those whose voices are too often unheard.
