The Premier Volleyball League (PVL) reiterated its commitment to the national cause and unwavering cooperation with the local federation to advance the sport’s development in the country.
PVL president Ricky Palou said that the league and its member clubs will not hesitate to loan players if tapped to play for Alas Pilipinas in international competitions.
Allowing PVL players to the national team is one of the sweeping changes the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) ordered the suspended Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) to implement for its reinstatement.
“Of course, we will comply (if our players are called up for Alas),” Palou told Daily Tribune.
“Our team owners have always been cooperative. They will release their players if they are being tapped for the national team,” he added.
The country’s first and only women’s professional volleyball league has been backing Alas with top-caliber players for over a decade.
In fact, its stars composed the core of the national team that took back-to-back podium finishes in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Women’s Volleyball Cup in 2024 and 2025.
Even members of the Alas women’s beach volleyball team, which won a historic gold medal in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand last year, come from the PVL, which has also adjusted its calendar to align with the national team window.
The FIVB-appointed Ad-Hoc Committee has laid out a roadmap for the PNVF, suspended by the FIVB since 29 May and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) last Monday, for its ban to be lifted.
It was set out following an extensive consultation process with key stakeholders, including the POC, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), the PVL, and national team athletes and coaches.
Among the reforms mentioned is a written commitment from the PNVF to cooperate with the PSC’s seven-year agreement covering both event organization and the Volleyball Empowerment Program, and compliance with all FIVB decisions.
The federation is also asked to settle all outstanding salaries on all coaches under the Volleyball Empowerment Program as well as ensuring all future payments will be made on time.
Another directive is for the PNVF to have a signed written commitment to practice regulatory governance to integrate the PVL to the National League season starting 2027 and comply with the obligation to release players for national team duty.
