QC logs 29% rise in measles cases in early 2026

Quezon City recorded a 29 percent increase in measles cases in the first two months of 2026, according to a report released Tuesday.
The Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division said it logged a total of 76 cases from 1 January to 24 February, based on a post on its social media page.
The data showed that most cases involved children aged 1 to 10 years old. No deaths related to measles have been reported.
Measles is a highly contagious airborne disease that can cause severe complications and, in some cases, death, according to the World Health Organization.
The WHO reported 95,000 measles-related deaths globally in 2024, with most cases involving unvaccinated children.
To address the threat, the Department of Health relaunched its Ligtas Tigdas program, offering free measles vaccinations in communities nationwide.
The first phase covered Mindanao and the Bangsamoro region from 19 January to 13 February. The second phase in Luzon and the Visayas is scheduled for June.
The Quezon City government is also offering free measles vaccinations. It said health centers are open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays for residents seeking information and immunization services.
Measles vaccines are administered in two doses to ensure full protection against the virus.
