DAVAO CITY — Around 5,963 athletes to go along with 1,108 coaches are set to join the opening ceremonies of the 2026 Davao Regional Athletic Association (DAVRAA) Meet at the Tagum City Sports Complex on Sunday.
Department of Education (DepEd) Region XI spokesperson Jenelito Atillo made the announcement, saying that the Davao del Norte and Tagum City’s sports facilities are already prepared for the biggest and most prestigious event in the region.
“We are good to go for the opening ceremonies which will start at 4 p.m.,” said Atillo during a news briefing with the Davao Peace and Security Press Corps.
Atillo also added that weightlifting, secondary football and elementary futsal will also be included in the meet for the first time in this tournament that serves as a gateway to the Palarong Pambansa in Agusan del Sur.
“Davao City as always is expected to defend its title on the road to this year’s 66th Palarong Pambansa in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur this May, wherein 18 regions in the country are set to compete. DAVRAA’s aim is to land on the top three spots during this year’s Palaro,” Atillo said, adding that the DAVRAA delegates will be housed in 13 different schools.
