Jopay Paguia returns to stage after heartfelt prayer

For years, the possibility lingered quietly — a comeback that required more than nostalgia. When Jopay Paguia finally decided to reunite with the SexBomb Girls, she says the choice did not begin with rehearsals or contracts, but with faith.

In an interview with Boy Abunda, the performer revealed she first sought guidance before committing to the return. She turned to her pastor, wrestling with whether stepping back into the spotlight aligned with her beliefs.

“Kinausap ko ’yung pastor ko, sabi ko magiging masamang tao ba ako ‘pag bumalik ako? Isa lang ang sinabi sa akin:

‘Ano ba ang una mong naging trabaho? Anong unang natutunan? Binigyan ka ni Lord ng talent, ano ba binigay sa’yo? Kumanta at sumayaw. Nasa sa’yo na lang ’yan kung paano mo siya gagamitin.’”

The conversation reframed the question for her. Instead of asking whether the past should stay in the past, she began asking how her gifts could be used moving forward.

She then turned to prayer, asking for clarity in a decision she did not want to make lightly.

“Pinag-pray ko ’yun. Sabi ko kay Lord, ‘Bigyan mo ako ng sign kung babalik ako sa grupo ko.’ Marami na talagang sign pero gusto ko ’yung talagang solid. Binigyan Niya ako ng sign na talagang pumukaw talagang sa akin.”

For Paguia, the return became less about revisiting fame and more about answering a calling she felt had always been part of her identity. The stage, once simply a workplace, transformed into something purposeful — a space where talent and conviction could coexist.

Her homecoming ultimately reflects a journey many artists quietly face: rediscovering that passion can evolve, and that sometimes the path forward leads back to where it all began.
