The Philippines and Italy signed a renewed bilateral defense cooperation agreement on Saturday, 14 February 2026, on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany.

The Department of National Defense (DND) sent a statement to the Daily Tribune, saying the Agreement between the Philippines and Italy on Cooperation in the Field of Defense replaces a previous memorandum of understanding and provides a framework for procurement, defense co-production, logistics, and technology collaboration.

The DND said the accord establishes practical avenues for cooperation and capacity building, including joint activities to improve interoperability between the two countries’ armed forces.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro described the signing as a step toward expanding defense cooperation between the Philippines and Italy, while Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto signed on behalf of his government.

According to the DND, the agreement also reflects a shared interest in supporting maritime security, promoting regional stability, and advancing mutual defense priorities. The deal comes after more than a year of consultations between the two countries.

The renewed agreement is expected to open opportunities for future joint projects, including co-production of defense equipment and technology-sharing arrangements.
