Around P18 million has been released for approximately 3,000 retired public school teachers in Manila to cover their Old Age Sustenance Allowance (OASA) for the full year of 2025.
The payout covers January to December 2025 under Ordinance No. 7977, which grants P500 per month, or P6,000 per year, to qualified retired teachers aged 70 and above.
The City Treasurer’s Office is set to distribute the allowances from 16 to 20 February. The release follows the city government’s decision to cover the full year, instead of an initial six-month request of about P9 million.
The allowances aim to provide additional financial support to retired educators who served in Manila’s public schools. Officials noted that the city’s current fiscal position has enabled the local government to fulfill prior obligations to retirees.
Ordinance No. 7977 was enacted as a recognition of the contributions of teachers in shaping generations of students in Manila.
