Authorities prevented a potentially dangerous situation in Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao del Sur, after an unarmed improvised projectile rocket grenade was discovered in Barangay Mileb on 10 February, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported Thursday.
Nartatez said that around 12:50 PM, the grenade was reported by residents, prompting the Rajah Buayan Municipal Police Station (MPS) to request support from the Provincial Explosive and Canine Unit, Maguindanao del Sur (PECU MDS) for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and K9 assistance. By 1:20 PM, the combined forces of PECU MDS, MPS, and the 34th Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army (34IB PA) secured the area. After a thorough inspection, the EOD team conducted a controlled disposal using the Bomb in Place (BIP) procedure, successfully detonating the grenade at 2:20 PM. By 2:30 PM, authorities declared the area safe, confirming no threats to the public or personnel.
The incident, according to Nartatez, highlights the PNP’s priorities under its Focused Agenda on Enhanced Managing Police Operations and Active Community Support, emphasizing readiness, proactive response, and engagement with local communities to ensure public safety. Through vigilance, immediate action, and cooperation with residents, the PNP continues to strengthen public trust in law enforcement.
