The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said Wednesday that it issued show-cause orders to at least 10 passenger jeepneys during operations in Quezon City.
Department Chairperson Atty. Vigor Mendoza II said the issuance of the orders is intended to send a “strong message” to operators that the agency will continue enforcing strict measures against poorly managed terminals and vehicles.
LTFRB officials conducted a surprise inspection Tuesday along West Avenue, Fernando Poe Jr. Avenue and Roosevelt Avenue as part of efforts to improve public transportation in Metro Manila. Inspectors found jeepneys parked along the road in violation of regulations.
Mendoza cited Memorandum Circular No. 2017-027, which requires operators to provide designated off-street parking for their vehicles. He also emphasized that drivers must be properly dressed, as stipulated in the memorandum.
In a separate operation Tuesday, LTFRB officials were joined by Sen. Raffy Tulfo and Land Transportation Office Region IV-A Regional Director Elmer J. Decena in a visit to Grand Central Terminal in Batangas City.
The agency said it has issued at least 87 violations and show-cause orders nationwide so far as it continues its campaign to provide a safe and reliable transportation network in the country.
