At least six schools will participate in the inaugural golf tournament of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) this May.
UAAP Season 88 president Fr. Rodel Cansancio of University of Santo Tomas (UST) said with most schools already having golf squads competing in the ICTSI Intercollegiate Tour, it is now a matter of adaptation as the sport makes its debut as a demonstration event.
The first-ever UAAP golf tournament will be held at the Luisita Golf and Country Club in Tarlac.
“Even before this, there were already intercollegiate golf tournaments involving University of the Philippines (UP), De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila University, and UST, so it’s really about formal adoption,” Cansancio said.
“Adamson University and National University are forming golf teams as well.”
Golf will make a splash in the collegiate scene this year as it will also be featured in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
UAAP executive director Atty. Rebo Saguisag said having golf integrated into the UAAP was an easy choice since schools already have their dedicated golf teams prior to the announcement.
