ACT-CIS party-list Representative Edvic Yap has resigned from his post as a member of the House of Representatives after informing the House plenary of his resignation through written communication to his colleagues, which was read during the House’s plenary session on Wednesday.
Yap’s resignation came some three months after Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said that he and Bulacan 6th District Representative Salvador Pleyto received money through bank transfers from contractor couple Curlee and Sarah Discaya, key figures in the multi-billion-peso flood control corruption scandal.
He is the brother of Benguet Lone District Representative Eric Yap, who has also been implicated in the flood control controversy.
The Ombudsman had said Yap was a “person of interest” in connection with fully paid yet unfinished flood control projects built in La Union by a firm he previously owned.
Eric served as chairman of the House appropriations committee from 2020 to 2022.
The solon had previously denied claims by “surprise whistleblower” Orly Guteza that he delivered suitcases of money to then–Ako Bicol party-list representative Zaldy Co in connection with flood control projects.
Yap branded the allegations against him as “untrue,” and vowed to clear his name at the proper time and forum.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., last December, announced that the Court of Appeals had issued a freeze order on the personal accounts and assets of the Yap brothers.
