The Aboitiz Equity Ventures (AEV) has renewed its support for Ironman 70.3 Davao, underscoring the group’s long-term partnership with Davao City and its push to support events that generate economic activity, tourism, and community engagement.

The international endurance race, which covers 70.3 miles of swimming, cycling, and running, will be held on 22 March 2026. This marks the fifth time Davao City will host the Ironman 70.3, with the race route passing through the Davao City Coastal Road and offering views of Mount Apo.

A ceremonial signing for the sponsorship was held last month and was led by Eduardo Aboitiz, vice president of AEV’s Synergy Office and president of Apo Agua Infrastructura Inc., a subsidiary of Aboitiz InfraCapital. Also present was Jokin Aboitiz, first vice president for business development and corporate services of AboitizPower Distribution Utilities, who witnessed the signing.

“We are proud to support multiple initiatives and events across the city, and we commend Davao’s forward-looking efforts to promote a healthy and active lifestyle for all,” Eduardo Aboitiz said.

The sponsorship forms part of the Aboitiz Group’s continuing partnership with Davao City, which began in 2018. Beyond event sponsorships, the group maintains a strong operational presence in the city through its bulk water supply project under Apo Agua, power distribution firm Davao Light and Power Co., and power generation companies Therma South Inc. and Hedcor Inc.

Davao City Administrator Francis Layog said the city looks forward to welcoming athletes and visitors as part of its charter anniversary celebrations.

“We hope to meet the triathletes with warm Dabawenyo hospitality and foster camaraderie during our city’s chartered anniversary,” Layog said.

From a business perspective, large-scale international sporting events such as Ironman 70.3 generate spillover benefits for local economies, including increased hotel occupancy, transport demand, food and beverage sales, and tourism-related services.

For the Aboitiz Group, support for such events aligns with its broader strategy of advancing business and communities through infrastructure, utilities, and corporate social responsibility initiatives, while reinforcing Davao City’s position as a destination for world-class events.
