Bernalyn Bejoy sets a new national indoor record in after winning the Inland NW Invitational over the weekend in Spokane, Washington.
Bejoy, 25, clocked in two minutes and 08.36 seconds as she outpaced the 31-women field.
She also eclipse the previous record of 2:13.44 set by Jessica Barnard in 2014.
Emma Stolte of Portland State settled for a silver medal with a clocking of 2:08.51 while Hazel Kunkel of Northwest Nazarene tallied 2:16.59.
Bejoy told DAILY TRIBUNE that a stint in the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland this March could be possible.
“Yes, I do have aspirations, but I’m not sure yet if I’ll be able to continue. So far, everything is okay,” Bejoy said.
“I need to improve my current ranking. In World Indoor rankings, I’m around 100-something, while in Asia, I’m in the top eight. I just need to rank up.”
