AboitizPower plants mangrove saplings in Orani

The AboitizPower, thru private limited partnerships GNPower Mariveles Energy Center (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin (GNPD), and other stakeholders in Bataan have planted 500 mangrove saplings at the Orani Mangrove Conservation and Protection Project site at Barangay Kabalutan in the town of Orani, Bataan on 2 February 2026.

The mangrove planting activity was conducted along with the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO), the local government of Orani, the Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) Abucay Campus and the Tubo-tubo Fisherfolk Association (TFA).

The said activity coincided with the World Wetlands Day 2026 celebration as 500 mangrove saplings of the Avicenna and Soneratia variety were planted at the Orani Mangrove Conservation and Protection Project site.

Orani Mayor Jon Arizapa was also present during the mangrove planting activity, citing, “Sa pagtutulungan ng Bataan PG-ENRO, Pamahalaang Bayan ng Orani, BPSU, Tubo-tubo Fisherfolk Association, at AboitizPower, sama-sama nating ipinakita na ang pangangalaga sa kalikasan ay responsibilidad nating lahat.”

“Ang mga bakawan ay hindi lamang tanim—ito’y pananggalang sa ating baybayin, kabuhayan ng mangingisda, at pamana sa susunod na henerasyon. Isang maliit na hakbang ngayon, malaking ambag para sa kinabukasan ng Orani,” he added.

The Tubo-Tubo Orani Mangrove Adoption and Protection Project in Bataan is a major initiative under Project TRANSFORM Baka1Bataan focused on rehabilitating, protecting, and conserving mangroves to safeguard coastal areas from storm surges, erosion, and climate change.

Led by partners like AboitizPower and the DENR, this project in Brgy. Kabalutan, Orani empowers local fisherfolk and supports biodiversity.

The project covers a 10-hectare marshland in Orani, Bataan, specifically at Tubo-tubo, following a previous 20-hectare adoption in 2023.

The project aims to act as a natural barrier against storm surges, prevent coastal erosion, sequester carbon, and provide breeding grounds for marine life to support local livelihoods.
