The Association of Philippine Journalists-Samahang Plaridel Foundation Inc. will launch the first in a series of campus journalism seminars on 30 January at Eulogio Rodriguez Jr. High School, Mayon Avenue, Quezon City.
Entitled “Usapang Plaridel: Campus Journalism Lecture Series,” the event will bring four veteran print and broadcast journalists to different public high schools across Metro Manila from January to December as part of Samahang Plaridel’s efforts to raise the standard of journalism in the country.
Association of Philippine Journalists-Samahang Plaridel president Evelyn Quiroz said the campus journalism lecture is aimed at providing valuable insights and inspiring life lessons to aspiring student-journalists.
Leading the Samahang Plaridel lecturers are veteran journalists Nestor Cuartero of the Manila Bulletin/The Market Monitor, who will talk about feature/lifestyle writing; Frederick Nasiad of the Manila Times, who will discuss news writing; Lito Cinco of People’s Tonight, who will lecture on sports writing; and Benjamin Alejandro, who will talk about radio broadcasting.
Jonathan Gesmundo of the Manila Standard/The Market Monitor will also give a lecture on the life of Marcelo H. del Pilar, the “Father of Philippine Journalism,” and his writings at La Solidaridad under the pen name Plaridel.
Quiroz thanked E. Rodriguez Jr. High School principal Ernesto Ferrer and ERJHS Alumni Association president Ramon Ferreros for their assistance with the seminar-workshop.
