Keith Nieto, mayor of Cainta, will take a medical break effective Monday, 26 January, after experiencing severe chest pains.
Nieto was rushed to a hospital on Sunday following complaints of chest discomfort.
"Angiogram procedure revealed mutiple blocks in all his major arteries. He is under close medical monitoring and his movements have been likewise restricted," the mayor said in an advisory posted on his Facebook page.
"Today, he alongside his family, will decide on the options laid on which kind of medical procedure/surgery to be undertaken to address his condition," the advisory added.
Vice Mayor Ace Servillon has been designated as acting mayor while Nieto undergoes treatment and medical procedures.
"Meanwhile, so as not to hamper the delivery of services to his town, Mayor Kit has designated Vice Mayor Ace Servillon to act as Mayor effective today until such time as he is able to recover and reassume his post," the mayor's advisory said.
All of Nieto’s scheduled activities, including events leading up to his birthday on 31 January, have been put on hold.
"He conveys his good wishes to the people of Cainta and promises to return as soon as he gets a clean bill of health from his doctors," the advisory further said.
