Senator Christopher “Bong” Go dispatched a team to Barangay Bunawan in Davao City on 21 January to deliver support to fire victims.
He said the measures have improved firefighters’ ability to put out fires quickly.
Go underlined Republic Act (RA) 11589, or the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Modernization Act of 2021, which he principally authored and co-sponsored, as instrumental in improving the capability of fire personnel to respond to emergencies.
The law mandates a comprehensive 10-year modernization plan to equip the BFP with advanced capabilities for fire response, including increased firefighter recruitment, the acquisition of modern fire equipment, and specialized training.
Complementing this measure is RA 12076, known as the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act.
Signed on 6 December 2024, the law mandates the establishment of permanent, safe, and well-equipped evacuation centers across all cities and municipalities in the country.
Go emphasized how these facilities will safeguard the dignity and well-being of disaster-affected communities while accelerating recovery efforts.
Life too precious
“What I always say is this: equipment can be bought, money can be earned if we work hard, but no amount of money can ever buy back a life. A lost life is lost forever. What matters most is that we stay alive, and Filipinos are known for helping one another,” Go said.
During the distribution activity held at the Conference Room of Bunawan Barangay Hall, a total of 17 families received financial assistance, water containers, grocery packs, shirts, fans, and balls from Go’s team. Others also received a watch and a pair of shoes.
“I will continue to serve you, because serving is second nature to me, and I believe that service to the people is service to God,” Go concluded.
