The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) conducted a wildlife retrieval operation on a reticulated python that was discovered at Barangay Bayan-bayanan in Malabon City on January 9, 2026.

In a belated post on Wednesday, the DENR stated that the Enforcement Unit of the ng DENR Metropolitan Environmental Office (MEO) North conducted the wildlife retrieval operation on the said animal.

MEO North pointed out that the said snake usually lives in areas near creeks and rivers, always looking for a cold and shady space, a reason why the python was found inside the toilet. The incident shows the challenges of Human Wildlife Conflict (HWC).

After a checkup, the DENR assured that the reticulated python is in good shape and was let go at the Tanza Marine Tree Park where it will have a conducive living area and enough supply of food.

Despite not being declared as an endangered species, the DENR states that catching and trading of these animals are prohibited under Republic Act No. 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act.

The DENR reminds the public not to hurt or catch any wildlife they encounter, but immediately report it to the proper authorities to ensure the safety of the public and the animal.
