Young players from 52 public schools all over Metro Manila were treated to a day of futsal action during the Liga Eskwela Futsal 2026 last Sunday at the La Salle Greenhills gymnasium in Mandaluyong City.
No less than Daniel Moran, chairman of the Henry V. Moran Foundation, spearheaded the event that gathered athletes from 16 school divisions of Department of Education-National Capital Region who competed in multiple age categories, including 12U, 16U and 18U boys’ and girls’ divisions.
The festival-style finals highlighted competitive yet values-oriented play, emphasizing discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship.
Moran, who used to serve as team manager of the national futsal team, reaffirmed the program’s commitment to expanding access to quality sports opportunities for public school learners.
The Henry V. Moran Foundation sports director Victor Herman oversaw the technical and competition aspects of the event, ensuring high standards of play and player safety throughout the tournament.
A special highlight of the event was a futsal demonstration by young children, offering a glimpse of Liga Eskwela’s planned expansion to 8U and 10U age groups in the next school year. This initiative reflects the program’s long-term vision of developing athletes from an early age.
Implemented by The Henry V. Moran Foundation, the Liga Eskwela Program continues to promote futsal as a tool for holistic youth development. In line with this advocacy, the Foundation also plans to conduct summer futsal camps this year to further support grassroots training and talent development.
