Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist Eumir Marcial should be on his way back to the United States next month to resume his professional career.

After rocking the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Bangkok and thrilling everyone during the 50th anniversary of the Thrilla in Manila, Marcial is ready to jack up his professional record to 8-0.

“My plan is to set up camp in the US in February,” Marcial told DAILY TRIBUNE as he sets the stage for his promotional debut on 21 February in his native Zamboanga City.

Marcial is dipping his fingers into promotions by holding the comeback of provincemate Weljon Mindoro, who battles a crack foreign foe next month.

Mindoro is being showcased as Marcial’s way of helping him get back on track following his heartbreaking performance during the SEA Games in Thailand.

He was a top gold medal bet in the SEA Games but Mindoro suffered a loss in his first fight, citing his lack of experience fighting amateur-style to the defeat to a Vietnamese foe.

Marcial, 30, produced the country’s only SEA Games gold in boxing after most of his teammates suffered controversial losses when ranged against bets from the host nation.

If his professional career permits, Marcial might find himself representing the Philippines once again when it vies in the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
