The Department of Education (DepEd) is revitalizing its broadcast-based learning platform DepEd TV to ensure students displaced by disasters and extreme weather can continue their education.
In partnership with Solar Learning and the Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc., the department plans to integrate curriculum-aligned programs into television broadcasts. The initiative aims to provide instructional continuity for learners in evacuation centers and disaster-stricken communities where traditional classroom settings are unavailable.
The service is accessible through digital free-to-air television, cable and direct-to-home satellite. Digital signals are available in major hubs, including the National Capital Region, Baguio, Cebu, Davao and Zamboanga, airing on BEAM Channel 31 and SBN Channel 21.
Cable users can access the programming via SkyCable Channel 3 in Metro Manila and through various provincial operators. Satellite viewers can tune in to Cignal Channel 146 or Satellite TV Channel 182.
The Knowledge Channel currently provides 16 hours of daily programming featuring K-12 instructional videos for subjects including math, science, English, Filipino and social studies. This content has been submitted to the department’s Learning Systems Strand for review ahead of the full relaunch.
Education officials are currently reviewing the programming grid to ensure it aligns with teachers’ daily learning logs. The department will also air a “bug version” of the channel to test the system and ensure its relevance during class suspensions and scheduled holidays.
