PAGASA: Possible LPA may bring widespread rains this week

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said a low-pressure area (LPA) may develop this week over the eastern section of Mindanao, potentially bringing widespread rains to several parts of the country.

PAGASA said the possible LPA is expected to form east of Mindanao and gradually move closer to the Philippine landmass. Once developed, it could bring rains over the Caraga region and parts of Eastern Visayas in the coming days, with a chance of affecting the Bicol Region should it continue moving westward. The weather bureau added that there is a moderate likelihood the system could intensify into Tropical Depression “Ada.”

Meanwhile, three other weather systems are currently influencing conditions nationwide. The shear line is affecting eastern areas of Northern and Central Luzon, the Northeast Monsoon continues to impact the rest of Northern and Central Luzon, while easterlies are affecting other regions.

These weather systems are expected to bring cloudy skies, scattered rains, and isolated thunderstorms across Luzon and parts of the Visayas and Mindanao.

PAGASA warned residents in affected areas to remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides, particularly in locations that may experience moderate to heavy rains or severe thunderstorms.

Fisherfolk and seafarers were also advised of moderate to strong winds and rough seas, especially over Northern Luzon and the eastern sections of Central and Southern Luzon.

Authorities urged the public to closely monitor official PAGASA advisories as the potential LPA continues to be monitored.
