Bureau of Immigration (BI) officers arrested a South Korean national at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) after he was flagged for an active Interpol Red Notice, the bureau said Monday.
Yun Daeyoung was intercepted 11 January while attempting to board a Vietnam Airlines flight to Hanoi. Immigration officers discovered the Interpol alert during primary inspection, leading to a secondary inspection and his subsequent arrest.
Yun is allegedly involved in a goods purchase fraud syndicate in South Korea. Authorities say he deceived a victim into investing in an online shopping mall, promising a share of the profits.
Through this scheme, he allegedly obtained 22.5 million Korean won, or approximately P900,000.
In a related series of 24 transactions, Yun allegedly defrauded the same victim of an additional 140.7 million won, or roughly P5.7 million. Under South Korean law, these offenses carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
The BI said Yun will be charged with being an undesirable alien under Philippine immigration laws. He remains in the bureau’s custody pending deportation proceedings to face trial in his home country.
