Malacañang Palace has brushed off impeachment plans of lawmakers against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

This, after Caloocan 2nd district representative Edgar Erice revealed there are plans to include the President in filing impeachment complaints once the House of Representatives resume sessions.

“We have seen this statement made by a lawmaker. At this point, these are unsubstantiated statements allegedly coming from the supporters of a certain politician,” Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro told Palace reporters in a message.

On 5 February, the one year ban rule on filing impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte will be lifted.

Erice said Marcos’ impeachment complaint will have betrayal of public trust as one of the grounds.

Meanwhile, Castro said the President remains committed in leading and producing results for the Filipino people.

“He respects the existing constitutional processes and believes that any actions taken by members of Congress will be driven by facts, the law, and national interest. The administration will not speculate on rumors or political maneuverings,” she added.
