A man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of an Ohio dentist and his wife just days before the New Year, authorities said.

Michael McKee was taken into custody in connection with the deaths of Monique Tepe, 39, and her husband, dentist Spencer Tepe, 37, who were found shot inside their Columbus, Ohio home on 30 December. Court records show McKee is the former husband of Monique Tepe.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Franklin County Municipal Court, investigators identified a suspect after reviewing neighborhood surveillance footage that captured a vehicle arriving shortly before the killings and leaving soon after. Police later traced the vehicle to Rockford, Illinois, where evidence allegedly linked McKee to its use before and after the shootings.

Police said officers went to the couple’s home for a welfare check after Spencer Tepe failed to report to work. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators found that Spencer Tepe suffered multiple gunshot wounds, while Monique Tepe was shot at least once in the chest, according to local reports.

Two young children were found inside the home but were unharmed, court documents showed.

In a statement, Columbus police said the investigation remains ongoing and that further information will be released as appropriate to avoid compromising the case.

The Tepe family welcomed the arrest, expressing confidence in the justice system and gratitude to law enforcement for their efforts. They said their focus remains on honoring the victims’ lives and caring for the children left behind.

McKee and Monique Tepe were married in 2015 and divorced two years later. They did not have children together, records show. McKee is scheduled to make his initial court appearance on Monday.
