The local government of Taguig City has approved its first real property tax rate increase in more than three decades, a move officials said is necessary to fund public services for a population that has nearly quintupled since 1990.
The 0.25 percentage point increase was established under Ordinance No. 28, which the Taguig City Council approved on 15 December 2025. The measure, which recently took effect, was sponsored by 24 city councilors along with the leaders of the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation and the Liga ng mga Barangay.
Under the new rate structure, the basic tax for residential and agricultural properties will rise to 1.25 percent from the previous 1 percent. Commercial, industrial, and special properties will now be taxed at 1.75 percent, up from 1.5 percent.
The city will continue to impose an additional 1 percent levy for the Special Education Fund.
