UnionBank is offering added peace of mind to its credit cardholders through U-Shield Premier, a protection program designed to cover outstanding credit card balances in the event of unforeseen circumstances such as death, critical illness, or hospitalization.
Under the program, cardholders can receive coverage of up to P5.9 million, with premiums starting at 0.76 percent of the total outstanding balance, charged directly to the UnionBank credit card. Enrollment requires no medical tests or paperwork, making the process accessible and straightforward.
U-Shield Premier provides coverage for death and burial expenses, major critical illnesses including cancer, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, and major organ transplant surgery, as well as hospitalization, including cases related to Covid-19. In the event of confinement, the program covers 100 percent of the outstanding balance, with hospitalization benefits of up to P625,000 per year.
In cases of untimely death or diagnosis of a covered critical illness, the plan pays up to P2.5 million of the cardholder’s outstanding balance, plus an additional amount equivalent to 300 percent or three consecutive months of the balance immediately prior to the event, subject to terms and conditions.
The protection is renewable until age 69 and includes a 30-day free look period, allowing customers to review the coverage without immediate commitment.
UnionBank said U-Shield Premier aims to shield cardholders and their families from unexpected financial burdens while allowing them to use their credit cards with greater confidence.
