Return engagement

Relationships usually go through a dating stage, when two people get to know each other better or spend time together.

Single Rachel Anderson shared her unusual dating experience in a now-viral TikTok post with more than a million views.

In the video, Anderson recalled her date telling her to dress comfortably for their meeting, so she went to the restaurant wearing “sweatpants, a sweatshirt, some tennis shoes … my hair in a bun, no jewelry, no nothing,” the New York Post reported.

She was surprised, however, when the restaurant turned out to be a fancy establishment.

“I turned around and walked out,” Anderson said in the video, accusing her date of trying to embarrass her for being underdressed, according to the New York Post.

Meanwhile, a Chinese man’s date eventually became his fiancée. However, the romance and engagement of the couple from a village in northeastern China’s Heilongjiang province suddenly crumbled when Wang helped her husband-to-be, surnamed He, run his family’s restaurant in Hebei province for six months, the South China Morning Post reported.

He grew dissatisfied with Wang because she “only worked on easy jobs” and allegedly ate the food they were selling, according to the report.

The engagement was canceled and, worse, He sued his fiancée to recover the 20,000-yuan dowry he had given to her family.

The court hearing on the case, reported on 9 December by Zonglan News, went viral on social media, where commenters criticized He for also demanding that Wang return the 30,000 yuan he allegedly spent on her while they were dating, according to the South China Morning Post.

The court denied He’s request to recover the money spent during their dates but ordered Wang to return half of the dowry amount, which she agreed to.
