On the cusp of 2026, I find myself reflecting on my journey as a public servant, and on the responsibility that comes with it.
A new year is more than a fresh calendar; it is an opportunity to recommit to the values that drew me to public service: integrity, empathy, and a deep belief that justice must be felt by ordinary people, not just promised.
From that reflection came five resolutions — practical ones, realistic, grounded, and shaped by the communities I serve.
First, I resolve to strengthen communication and transparency. This is in line with trust beginning with clarity.
In 2026, I commit to making the work of the Department of Justice (DoJ) more visible and more understandable, especially its programs and services.
By using social media and other digital platforms more purposefully, we can deliver timely, accessible information, and ensure that people know where to turn when they need help. An informed public is an empowered public.
Second, I will deepen community engagement through expanded Katarungan Caravans, particularly in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
Justice must travel to the people, not the other way around. Listening directly to communities, building feedback mechanisms, and partnering with civil society and NGOs will help ensure that our policies are responsive and grounded on real needs, not assumptions.
Third, I will continue to push for a sustainable legal aid program through the DoJ Action Center.
This is designed especially for indigent Filipinos.
Access to justice should never depend on one’s ability to pay. A strengthened and well-supported legal aid system can change lives, restore dignity, and affirm that the justice system exists for everyone, not just the few who can afford it.
Fourth, I commit to continuous professional growth. This is aligned with public service demanding constant learning.
In 2026, I will invest in training and development in governance, justice delivery, and community engagement, not only to improve my own work, but to help foster a culture of learning and excellence within the department.
Finally, I resolve to reaffirm my commitment to integrity and accountability.
These are not optional ideals; they are the backbone of public service. I will continue to promote ethical leadership, confront corruption where it exists, and lead by example. Public trust is hard-earned but easily lost, and it is our duty to protect it.
These are not symbolic resolutions. They are resolutions that matter. They are commitments that will guide my work every day in 2026.
As we enter into the new year, I invite everyone, inside and outside government, to hold us public servants to high standards and to walk with us in building a justice system that is fair, compassionate, and credible.
Together, we can make 2026 a year where public service truly serves the public, and where justice is not just an ideal, but a lived reality for every Filipino.
