Britain has entered into a joint procurement agreement with Germany worth £52 million ($70 million) to acquire advanced mobile artillery systems capable of firing while on the move, British defense officials said Sunday.

In a statement, the UK Ministry of Defence said the deal will provide the British Army with an early operational demonstration of the RCH 155 artillery system, while Germany will receive two units for testing and evaluation.

The RCH 155 is a next-generation artillery platform mounted on armored vehicles and designed to strike targets at distances of more than 70 kilometers. It is produced by Franco-German defense firm KNDS in partnership with Germany’s Rheinmetall.

According to the ministry, the system can fire up to eight rounds per minute while in motion, operate with a two-person crew, and travel as far as 700 kilometers without refueling.

British officials said the acquisition is part of efforts to modernize artillery capabilities and strengthen defense cooperation with Germany.
