The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued a show cause order (SCO) Thursday against a van driver involved in a viral road rage incident after he allegedly rammed a motorcycle and fled the scene earlier this week.

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao ordered both the driver and the registered owner of the Hyundai Starex to appear before the agency’s Intelligence and Investigation Division on 6 January 2026.

The driver’s license has been placed under a 90-day preventive suspension, and the vehicle has been placed under “alarm” status to prevent any administrative transactions during the investigation.

Reports disclosed that the incident occurred Tuesday night at the corner of EDSA southbound and New York Street in Barangay South Triangle.

A video of the encounter widely circulated on Facebook shows bystanders kicking and denting the van as the driver attempted to escape.

In the footage, one individual is seen throwing a motorcycle helmet at the vehicle, which had broken windows and visible damage. A truck attempted to block the van’s path, but the driver successfully fled by driving against the flow of traffic.

The LTO is seeking a sworn explanation from the respondents regarding potential charges of reckless driving and abandonment of the scene. The agency is also weighing whether to permanently revoke the driver’s license under the “improper person to operate a motor vehicle” classification.

“Failure to appear and submit the verified or sworn comment as required shall be considered a waiver of your rights to be heard,” the order stated.
