The Philippine National Police (PNP) has intensified nationwide security and public safety operations with Christmas two days away, increasing police presence in areas expected to draw large crowds.

The PNP reported that 35,150 personnel have been deployed nationwide since December 16, supported by 4,923 augmentation personnel and 22 advocacy groups acting as force multipliers.

Police visibility has been heightened in churches, shopping malls, transport terminals, major roads, and other high-traffic locations amid increased holiday travel.

Acting PNP Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the deployment was scaled up in response to the expected surge of people during the Christmas season.

In line with directives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the PNP has also taken part in inspection operations targeting the sale and display of firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices.

Recent inspections were conducted in Bulacan to check compliance with existing laws and safety regulations. Authorities are coordinating with local government units to prevent accidents related to fireworks.

The PNP is also implementing checkpoints, intelligence monitoring, and public information campaigns aimed at curbing the illegal sale and use of prohibited firecrackers.

Police Assistance Desks remain operational at major transport hubs, terminals, and other crowded areas to provide immediate police assistance. The PNP has encouraged the public to report suspicious activities to authorities.

Motorists were reminded to follow traffic rules as heavy congestion is expected due to the holiday exodus. In coordination with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the PNP is monitoring and addressing violations such as colorum operations, overspeeding, drunk driving, overloading, reckless driving, and disregard for traffic signs and signals.

Nartatez said all PNP units remain on full alert throughout the holiday period.
