Davao City — Police here reaffirmed Tuesday that the city’s long-standing firecracker ban remains in effect, warning that violators will face immediate criminal charges during the holiday season.
During a “Gawing Ligtas Christmas” press conference, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) spokesperson Capt. Hazel Caballero Tuazon said the department will maintain a zero-tolerance policy through 2 January, 2026.
“The DCPO, through Acting City Director Col. Mannan Caracas Muarip, will strongly uphold a zero-tolerance policy throughout the festive period,” Tuazon said.
The ban covers the manufacturing, sale, distribution, possession and use of all pyrotechnic devices. Under the city’s ordinance, which has been in place for more than 20 years, any individual caught with firecrackers will be prosecuted.
Dr. Ellenetta Gamolo, acting director of the Department of Health Region 11, reported that no firecracker-related injuries or stray bullet incidents have been recorded in the city so far this season.
“Let us respect the firecracker ban, a practice which has had injury-free holiday celebrations for more than two decades,” Gamolo said.
In addition to the ban, Tuazon noted that 2,000 personnel have been deployed to secure churches and public squares for the final days of Simbang Gabi and other “Pasko Fiesta” festivities.
No security incidents have been reported as the dawn Masses conclude on Wednesday.
Authorities have established inspection points throughout the city to ensure the safety of residents attending holiday events.
