Families displaced by Super Typhoon "Uwan" in Mandaue City received modular shelter units (MSUs) Thursday as part of the establishment of a temporary Bayanihan Village.
Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling said the shelters are part of a government effort to provide safer, dignified temporary housing.
The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) committed about 200 MSUs for families displaced by the typhoon. On Thursday, 50 units were turned over to the local government, with facilities to include day care, clinic, and livelihood spaces.
Assistant Secretary Johnson Domingo represented DHSUD at the ceremony, which was presided over by Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Jovito Ouano.
The initiative, part of DHSUD’s "Bagong Pilipinas" program under Undersecretary Ed Robles, aims to improve living conditions for families affected by disasters. DHSUD previously deployed MSUs in earthquake-hit areas of Cebu and Davao Oriental, as well as to fire victims in San Juan City.
