The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said it has intensified security measures in major tourist destinations nationwide as the holiday season draws more visitors, following a travel advisory issued by the Canadian government urging its citizens to remain alert when visiting the Philippines.

PNP Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. told reporters that all police units have been placed on heightened alert, particularly in areas identified as having higher security risks. 

He noted that the PNP is coordinating with other government agencies to address potential threats and respond quickly to incidents involving tourists.

“We take these travel advisories seriously… Tourists should feel reassured that we are on alert and ready to respond 24/7 to any incident,” he said.

Nartatez noted that police visibility has been increased in key locations such as beaches, airports, transport terminals, and historical sites. 

The PNP, he said, is also working closely with local government units and tourism offices to monitor conditions on the ground and ensure faster coordination during emergencies.

Tourists and residents have been urged to report suspicious activities through official police hotlines and mobile applications. 

Nartatez said community-based initiatives, including neighborhood watch groups, designated safe zones, and volunteer tourist guides, are also being expanded to support security operations in popular destinations.

“The PNP is also encouraging tourists and local communities to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through official hotlines and mobile applications,” he urged the public.

As part of the holiday security plan, the PNP has deployed more than 100,000 police personnel nationwide to maintain peace and order and respond to any security concerns involving both locals and visitors.
