A new K-drama, Cashero, is redefining the superhero genre by exploring the real-world costs of extraordinary abilities. The show asks a provocative question: What would you be willing to sacrifice to save the world — your time, your safety, or your money?
The series centers on Kang Sang Ung (Lee Jun Ho), a modest community center worker whose ordinary life is turned upside down when he unexpectedly acquires superpowers. Unlike traditional superheroes, Sang Ung’s abilities are directly tied to his cash reserves, every heroic act drains his funds. The unusual situation forces him to carefully balance the desire to help others with the practicalities of everyday life.
Sang Ung is soon recruited by lawyer Byeon Ho In (Kim Byong Chul), whose own powers activate when he consumes alcohol, to join the Korean Coalition of Superheroes. Together with Bang Eun-mi (Kim Hyang Gi), a telekinetic whose abilities depend on her caloric intake, they face high-stakes missions against the shadowy “Criminal Association.” The team’s unusual powers and quirky limitations create a mix of action, strategy and humor, making for a superhero story with an offbeat twist.
Adding another layer to the story is Kim Min Suk (Kim Hye Jun), Sang-ung’s pragmatic girlfriend. Her sharp mathematical skills help the team calculate the literal cost of each heroic act, highlighting how even extraordinary powers cannot escape the realities of finances and daily life.
Directed by Lee Chang Min and written by Lee Jane and Jeon Chan Ho, Cashero is adapted from the popular Kakao Webtoon by Team Befar. Teasers released by Netflix show Sang Ung bruised and disheveled, struggling with bills that scatter every time he uses his powers. Alongside his eccentric team, he confronts the villainous “Human League,” turning his previously mundane life into a chaotic blend of absurdity, heroics and personal struggle.
