Beauty resolutions

DR. Givenchy Ang, founder and aesthetic dermatologist of Solaia, during DAILY TRIBUNE’s exclusive interview for Life’s online show, ‘Pairfect’
Got a reunion or a party to rock but don’t have time for a beauty makeover?
Dr. Givenchy Ang, founder and aesthetic dermatologist of Solaia, said one does not actually need to do much to be beautiful.
In an exclusive interview with DAILY TRIBUNE for the multimedia platform’s Lifestyle and Entertainment show Pairfect, Ang said even a simple beauty routine modification can work wonders for one’s skin and health.
As the year ends and a new year is in the horizon, Ang enumerated some do’s and don’ts one can consider to feel truly beautiful inside and out.
Don’t use products not for your skin type
“The number one (beauty) mistake is choosing incorrect products because they weren’t able to identify their correct skin type,” Ang said. “And that is why it’s very important to have your skin assessed by a licensed, qualified medical practitioner prior to customizing the treatment plans.”
Don’t use too many products
“So number two most common mistake is applying so many products at the same time. Simplicity is the key. You don’t have to apply so many products. You don’t have to spend so much just as long as you know what product works well for you. So, the point is, consistency is the key,” Ang stressed.
Don’t forget the neck
“Number three is excluding the neck and the hands in the skincare regimen. Why? Because the thickness of the skin on the neck is almost the same as thickness of the skin around the eyes. So, it’s one of the areas to show the earliest signs of aging. So remember to always take care of the neck as well!”
Do wear sunscreen
According to her, the most in-demand treatments at her clinic are for glass skin and tight pores. But whenever someone would ask her for her top beauty tip, it would be: “The most common answer is to wear sunscreen.”
“That is the number one anti-aging that you can do. Moisturize and of course, don’t be shy to consult a professional who could help you,” she said. “You should apply sunscreen as early as you get exposed to the sun. Even when you’re a baby, you should have sunscreen – especially when they go to the beach and outdoors.”
She recommended broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF (sun protection factor) 50 as a minimum requirement and as a must especially for mid-day.
“Especially now that families’ lifestyle now is to travel a lot and they’re always outdoors. So from then, you should be able to protect your skin from an early stage. If not wearing sunscreen, you should at least have protective clothing,” she advised. “The key is re-application, especially when you are outdoors.”
