XG member Cocona, who uses the pronouns they/them or he/him, shared a heartfelt and candid announcement about being transmasculine non-binary.
The rapper shared the message on Saturday, expressing gratitude, self-acceptance and hope for others who may be on similar journeys.
“As I reach this new chapter in my life, I want to share something that’s been in my heart for a long time,” Cocona wrote. “I am AFAB transmasculine non-binary.”
Cocona also revealed that they underwent top surgery earlier this year, calling it a significant step toward aligning their outer self with who they truly are. “I was born and perceived as female, but that label never represented who I truly am,” they said. “I live in a way that feels more masculine and true to who I am.”
The artist described the emotional difficulty of embracing their identity, calling self-acceptance “the hardest thing I’ve ever faced.” They shared that opening themselves up to that truth “changed the way I see and understand the world” and gave them “the courage and strength to grow.”
“Now, I can finally say, ‘There’s nothing wrong with who I am inside,’” Cocona wrote.
In the message, they expressed deep gratitude to those who supported them through their journey, including fellow XG members, XGALX executive producer Simon, and their parents. “I was only able to come this far because of the people who listened and stood by me,” they said. “I’m truly grateful for this path, and for every miracle that brought us together.”
Cocona ended their announcement by thanking fans for their continued support and expressing excitement for the future with XG and XGALX. “May these words gently light a spark in someone’s heart,” they wrote. “And to everyone who needs it — may my love reach all of them.”
The message marks the first time an active member of the global girl group has spoken publicly about their gender identity.
