The Philippine men’s national football team opened its 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games campaign on a high note after beating Myanmar 2-0 at the 700th Anniversary Stadium in Chiangmai on Friday.

Alex Monis delivered the first goal for the Filipinos after a tap-in goal in the 19th minute gave them a 1-0 lead.

Burmese defender Latt Wai Phone scored an own goal in the 50th minute, making it 2-0 for the Filipinos.

A win over Indonesia on Monday at 7 p.m. (Manila time) will earn the Philippines a spot in the semifinals.

On the other hand, the Filipinas suffered a 1-2 loss to Myanmar at the IPE Chonburi Stadium.

Goals from Win Theingi Tun (4th) and May Htet Lu (89th) secured the victory for the Burmese.

Mallie Ramirez scored the lone goal for the Filipinas in the 69th minute.

The Philippines will look to bounce back against Vietnam on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the same venue.
