NexGen Energy Corp.’s wind arm, Airstream Renewables Corp. (ARC), is set to invest around $2.5 billion, or roughly P142.5 billion in three new onshore wind projects.

The company reported on Monday that it secured 1.7-gigawatt (GW) Wind Energy Service Contracts (WESC) from the Department of Energy for projects in Pangasinan, Samar, and Nueva Ecija.

“Securing 1.7 gigawatts of new Wind Energy Service Contracts represents a major step forward in NexGen Energy’s growth strategy and materially strengthens our development pipeline,” said Eric Y. Roxas, President of NexGen Energy Corp.

“These three new onshore wind projects—Pangasinan, Samar, and Nueva Ecija—position Airstream Renewables as one of the most competitive large-scale wind developers in the country,” he added.

According to NexGen, the Pangasinan project alone is projected to generate 600 megawatts (MW) or over 13,770 hectares and will connect to the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines’ 230-kilovolt (kV) Labrador Substation via an 8-kilometer transmission line.

Samar’s wind project also has a 600 MW capacity across 16,929 hectares, linked to the NGCP 138kV Victoria Substation through a 7-kilometer line.

Meanwhile, the Nueva Ecija project is expected to produce 500 MW over 9,234 hectares, connected to the NGCP 230kV Sampaloc Substation with a 15-kilometer line.
