The walled city of Intramuros in Manila is in full holiday spirit, its historic grounds glowing with Christmas decorations, lantern displays, and musical performances.
Through “Christmas in the Walls,” the beloved Filipino holiday tradition takes center stage in the nation’s capital, set against one of the country’s most iconic heritage sites. First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos joined the festivities, stopping by Intramuros to share in the Christmas cheer.
“Intramuros has always been a place where families come together, where communities gather, and where our traditions shine their brightest,” she said.
“Christmas in the Walls brought that spirit back to life — with lanterns made by students, government agencies, and private partners lighting up the streets, and Christmas carols filling the old city with warmth and wonder,” she said.
Lanterns add warmth
Colorful and uniquely crafted lanterns brightened the pathways of Fort Santiago, complemented by cheerful Christmas carols that made the evening feel unmistakably festive.
Mrs. Marcos also expressed her gratitude to those who made the celebration possible, including the Department of Tourism, the Intramuros Administration, and the guests who attended.
“Thank you to everyone who made this event so meaningful. May the joy, unity, and hope we felt here carry us through the holidays and into the new year,” she said.
