The MVP Sports Foundation Gymnasium in Intramuros stands as the biggest beneficiary as soon as the country’s hosting of the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships is over.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Patrick “Pato” Gregorio said they are looking at installing the apparatuses used in the world tourney to the MVP gym so that young athletes can train using world-class sports equipment.
“Look at all the beautiful world-class equipment. We will put that in our training facility,” said Gregorio, adding that the equipment in the MVP gym, on the other hand, will be transported to regional training centers all over the country.
“So what do we do with the existing facility equipment? We bring them to Visayas and Mindanao. I want to thank International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) president Morinari Watanabe for giving us an opportunity.”
“With this opportunity of World Gymnastics here with the support of FIG, I think we will identify hundreds of young Filipinos who will excel in this sport.”
Gregorio said sending the previous gymnastics equipment to the regional centers is part of their plan to develop the young talents into future Olympians.
“President Watanabe said that we should build a pyramid. You identify, you have a grassroots program, and then you get the best for Los Angeles and then Brisbane,” Gregorio said.
“The president wants to see 100 Carlos Yulos in the Philippines and maybe another 100 Eldrews.”
