Filipino lifestyles continue to transform, and malls have evolved with them. These spaces now serve as workplaces, leisure zones, social hubs and transit points. Architect Daniel Terence Yu has been at the center of this shift, creating environments where mobility, recreation and productivity naturally intersect.

Long before today’s lifestyle design trends became standard, Yu was already involved in architect-led development. His early work included a seven-tower residential project in Bonifacio Global City, which hinted at the integrated, people-centered spaces he would later be known for.
His approach became more defined as he pursued transit-oriented development. One Ayala in Makati is among his most recognized contributions. The development created a seamless link between MRT-3 Ayala Station, the EDSA Carousel stop and the surrounding network of offices and malls. It also became the largest Philippine project to compete at the 2017 World Architecture Festival in Berlin.
Yu often recalls that the most fulfilling part of any project is the moment he sees people using the spaces he designed.

Another project that reflects his design philosophy is Parqal in Aseana City. The name comes from a play on the words park and kalye (road). Strategically positioned along Aseana’s main spine between Macapagal Boulevard and Diokno Boulevard, Parqal stands as the first walkable mixed-use block in the Bay Area. It connects offices, retail clusters and community zones while prioritizing accessibility and pedestrian movement. The project demonstrates how Terence imagines environments that blend open spaces and everyday activity.
His vision continues through ongoing developments. One of his newest works is the major upgrade of Glorietta in Ayala, which reimagines the classic Makati mall for a generation that merges work tasks and social activities in one continuous rhythm. He also leads masterplans for the North Triangle Transport Terminal in Quezon City and the Taguig Integrated Terminal Exchange in Arca South, strengthening the connection between travel, convenience and lifestyle hubs.
Earlier this year, Yu was elected National President of the Philippine Institute of Architects (PIA). For him it was an opportunity and an honor to get a chance to work with passionate professionals who care about the direction of Filipino architecture.
