Young blood Quentin Millora-Brown embraces the challenge and heavy pressure of expectations wearing the Gilas Pilipinas uniform.
Considered as one of the heirs apparent at the center position along with sidelined Kai Sotto, when the time comes for Gilas veterans June Mar Fajardo and Japeth Aguilar to call it quits serving the tricolors, the 6-foot-10 Filipino-American vows to pour everything inside the court for flag and country.
“Oh man, what an honor to be mentioned in that way, you know,” Millora-Brown said.
“I’m going to do everything I can to live up to those expectations.”
Millora-Brown and fellow University of the Philippines product Juan Gomez de Liaño were the latest additions to the 18-man Gilas pool that will see action in the first window of the 2027 FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers home-and-away match against Guam set later this month.
The 25-year-old center joined Gilas practice that started Tuesday at the Blue Eagle gym.
Millora-Brown is a much-needed addition for the Tim Cone-mentored squad, with 7-foot-3 Sotto still recovering from a knee injury he suffered in January.
If chosen in the final roster for the road game in Guam on 28 November and in the country’s hosting on 1 December at the Blue Eagle Gym, Millora-Brown is expected to bring in the muscle and ceiling inside the paint.
The University Athletic Association of the Philippines champion promises to bring the same work ethic and energy he has shown during his collegiate stint and successful professional career with the Macau Black Bears
“What I’ve always been is hard work, energy, and that’s what I’ll always contribute. Those are the things that you can control. You can’t control if the shot is always made. You can’t control how the refs are going to call the game,” he said.
